Collections at the MoCP

The Museum of Contemporary Photography’s collections uniquely illustrate the diversity of regional, national, and international photographic practice. The museum’s permanent collection is comprised of more than 8,500 photographs and photographically-related objects, focusing on the photography of Americans and U.S. residents since 1936. The Midwest Photographers Project is a rotating archive of contemporary work by artists living and working in the Midwest.

RECENT ACQUISITION HIGHLIGHTS

As the Museum of Contemporary Photography’s collections continue to grow, the museum seeks to keep abreast of the changing concerns and innovations of contemporary photographers, and continually recognize new talent. The collecting mission emphasizes the acquisition of extended bodies of work in the interest of maintaining the context of each photograph and the scope of the project it comes from. Recent acquisitions to the permanent collection and new portfolios added to the Midwest Photographers Project demonstrate the Museum’s commitment to both support emerging artists and enhance our catalogue of prominent and historic work.
